ShoeMart Makati



Built in September 1975, SM Makati is the flagship store of Shoe Mart, a small shoe retail store that had its roots in the 1950s. The first retail store was founded by Henry Sy Senior right in the heart of Carriedo, Manila’s commercial district in the 1950s up to mid 70s. In the 1950s Sy traveled back and forth to New York to buy shoes to sell in his store and get ideas on how to be successful in the retail industry. His diligence paid off and by 1972 he built his first department store in Quiapo, a stone’s throw away from his humble Carriedo store.




The move to Makati was a clever one. Manila was slowly deteriorating due to congestion and maybe its proximity to Malacanang and the University belt where demonstrations and rallies were evident prior to the and because of the declaration of Martial Law. Makati was slowly being groomed into the new commercial district and any company who can afford the move to Makati slowly but surely packed their corporations and settled in Makati.

Henry Sy Sr. saw that and built his first flagship department store in Makati. The idea of one store selling all that one could possibly need was a success! Though the initial items sold at SM were inferior in quality as compared with the then Class A smaller-scale department store Rustan’s, SM was still a hit because it was selling very affordable items.
 

The store eventually upgraded its services and quality of items sold. Today, shopping at SM has come a long way. The SM Makati branch was revamped a few years back and has now walkways to neighboring Glorietta 1 and a direct access to the MRT station. One can literally shop for everything one needs at SM Makati. It is a department store and not a mall, although the department store itself carries numerous local and imported named-brands of clothes and shoes. Items sold at SM are quite affordable and of good quality too. There are no cinemas at SM Makati since it is solely a big department store. There are satellite
coffee shops and snack bars in specific areas and a fast food center at the lower ground where
the supermarket is. SM has now 37 supermalls nationwide and as its ad says “it is truly a one-
stop shopping” destination.

If u want information regarding sa mall kung may available stall or kiosk. You can direct to the mall admin, there ma aasist kau regarding sa mall. FYI, hindi po mall ang may hawak sa mall info booth, thats why sometimes d updated ung info nla, dahil hindi cla inoorient regarding sa mga information. Sariling pagaalam lang sa loob ng mall. They do multi multi tasking.

So since I have a discount coupon from Hello Kitty, I purchased a 1 piece and 2 piece Hello Kitty bathing suit. When I was already paying, the cashier with code CVB5892 and checker with code SBR1889 of that particular counter doesn\'t even know about the promo. They had me waiting because they do not know where or who to ask. The checker went out of the area to look for a regular merchandiser. Then she was the one explaining to me that the validity of the discount is for June 1 to 30, 2014 only. So I was telling her that \"Miss, the coupon says \'Valid until June 1 to 30, 2014\'. It does not say \'Valid from or valid on.\'\" She cannot explain anything to me so they phoned in someone. I was really getting impatient because I still had to report for work and they already kept me waiting that long when no body seems to know about this stupid coupon. After that, a manager came and explained to me the same lame explanation by the regular merchandiser, that it shall be used on June 1-30, 2014 and not until June 1-30, 2014. I asked her how did that explain what was indicated in the coupon. And she answered me with the most stupid and lame reason \'TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR.\' And that made me explode!!! You are deceiving your customers with the wrong information about this Hello Kitty discount to think that there is a DTI permit. Here are the mechanics:
< Please surrender Coupon to the cashier.
< Coupon can only be used once.
< This coupon cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or discount.
< Valid in all SM branches nationwide.
< Valid until June 1-30, 2014. (IS THIS RIGHT?)

All of the coupons say Valid until...and what was shocking is that is has a DTI-NCR permit number. Was this not checked upon release? To my dismay, I haven\'t got the name of the supervisor and they did not even gave back half of my coupon.

IT\'S VERY FUNNY THAT ONE OF THE BIGGEST SHOPPING MALLS IN THE PHILIPPINES DECEIVES THEIR CUSTOMERS. DO YOU THINK ALL YOUR CONSUMERS ARE STUPID?!!!! MAIINTINDIHAN KO PA KUNG VALID ON OR VALID FROM YUNG NAKALAGAY AT AKO YUNG NAGKAMALI NG TINGIN, KASO HINDI!!!!

i asked the customer service in sm makati about details how to get a available stalls or kiosk i was about asking them to give me contact number or atleast email address for my planning to franchise zagu shake or some kind, but sad to say they cannot even give me right details about it or atleast email add.,how come they called it as \"CUSTOMER SIRVICE\" when they dont even know how to give the right information to their customers????. she gave me phone number but i called it up in a different time and days about 1 whole week but no body answer the phone, how come its ringing without answering my calls,, are they doing their best to have a faster transaction with customers??? can you pls give me some email adress how to get available stalls or kiosk at SM MAKATI? bcoz their phone number is a big USELESS,, trying to deal tru email,, hope it works,,

I purchase an item last January 14, 2013 at SM Department Store Makati Mens wear. But unfortunately the item has to be replaced because the size is too small for my husband. Then the following day I returned the item at SM and went to the Customer Return Service. Its almost 8pm when I get there,and the line for the customer who will return the item is really long, There are 2 sales ladies who are assisting but I dont know they are really so slow, then this lady arrive and when it was my turn she is the one assisted me for my return item. She really fits in that area, she is so warm in assisting client, she is really good in dealing angry customers who are waiting.When I saw her ID her name is Ms. Carbonell. She really has a good customer service training. I really cant control myself to commend her for she is very polite to us customers. She can even smile to us and attend to customers questions. Thanks and goodluck.

someone thought me that other employee was lost their cellphones, money etc.. at their locker room during their duty and it always happened...my ngbubukas ng mga locker at kinukuha ang mga personal na gamit ng mga empleyado na hindi maaksyunan ng management...i think they need to put a cctv camera to monitor the locker specially at males locker room..nkaligtas ka nga sa mga sa mga holdaper at mandurukot dyan sa labas pagdating naman sa loob hndi k na makakaligtas sa mga pagnanakaw..i think dapat hindi itolerate ang ganitong bgay kung laging nagyayari...hindi napapangalagaan ang kapakanan ng mga empleyado....e empleyado p nga lng yan e..pano kung customer n?...magrereport k nga sa CRO kpag nwalan k pero hndi naman nre-retrieve ang mga gmit ng empleyado....mrami naman security n pwedeng magmonitor ng locker room ng mga empleyado hbang nkaduty ang employee pero may nawawalan pa rin...please open your mind n kelangan may safety ang mga empleyado sa loob ng sm...kung may CCTV lng n nilalagay sa lugar n yon matutukoy kung sino ang may sala..at dapat patalsikin agad.pkiaksyonan ASAP!!!!

i am concerned costumer.last week i had been in your department store to buy some threads where some sales lady lead me to some of your store i remember they called it notion and i am happy at last i found it.it's actually my first time in sm makati because sm cubao is nearer for me but it's a coincidence when i got by at some place in makati. then i entered the store.that time im wearing a sandals and a short and a palin shirt.the saleslady saw me but she doesn't greet me or even give a simple smile but instead look me from head to feet.i ignore it because im rush i seen their thread's but she never assist me or ask me what i need, instead she ignore me and assist the costumer next to me. they are two saleslady and one cashier but no one assist me.so i become disappointed but before i leave the store i ask her name,irene then go back her focus to other shopper.please this is my first time i had experience this .do they trained to have costumer service or even smile for us, who are they costumer,please your management must observe them and give them orientation.

This is regarding a security guard by the name of Hermano, A D (that's what it said on his uniform). I had sent an email regarding this incident to SM Makati already - I posted it here (without details about myself) to warn others.

The incident happened at around 11:00 AM to 12:00 NN of 30 Jan 2012. I was carrying a large, heavy, blue backpack that's stuffed with clothes.

I entered SM Makati through the reconstructed 2nd floor entrance from Glorietta, tired and not feeling well. As I entered, I opened my bag and held it in front of me for the said guard to check. Without taking a look at it, he told me to place it down on the small table in front of him, which I did so. He then proceeded inspecting it, but was doing so at an IRRITABLY SLOW AND UNPRODUCTIVE pace (he just dumbly stared at it while waving his inspection stick in the air). Annoyed, I unzipped the top zipper of my bag hastily and was in the process of pushing aside some of the clothes inside my bag when he BLURTED OUT LOUD, in front of every other patron to hear, "IYAN ANG GUSTO KO SA'YO SER! NAGAGALIT KA!" Shocked and even more annoyed, I walked away from the guard. I was a few paces away when i heard him STILL RAMBLING LOUDLY about what happened, in front of other customers. I went back, took note of his name, and walked away once more, only to glance back and see him staring, no, GLARING at me without minding the other customers. He was trying to SCARE me, I thought, and I half expected him to come SPRINTING at me to ATTACK me with one of his weapons available in his utility belt. Angry as I was, I was so exhausted, and was already embarrassed in front of everyone, thus I did not have the resolve to ask for a supervisor, specially not when the one I'm to complain about is intently following me with his eyes while his hands hover above his utility belt.

Are all of SM Makati's guards like that? Unacceptable. What that guard did was very embarrassing and humiliating. I know security guards are just supposed to check bags but I expected a lot more from SM Makati. I have been to at least 6 different SM malls on multiple occasions and never had I experienced something as disgusting and humiliating as that.

To SM Makati, please investigate this disappointing incident. I do not want any other customers suffering the emotional trauma that I had been through. And to other SM Makati patrons, if you have experienced something of similar nature, it'd be great if you could share your experiences as well.

I should have approached other sales ladies and look for their manager to voice my concerns and not sending this in written form. I was ‘trying’ to be nice at that time and forgot to ask. But we only have half an hour to finish our shopping and its just me and my tita. Our sundo turn twice around because were not done shopping yet. Our time got eaten away by this horrible ‘extremely pushy’ sales lady selling us a certain very expensive eye cream. Well the sucky part is not the product she was selling but the way she sells it. Claiming it’s the best eye cream in the world and all that sales thingy. ‘Wala man lang pakundangan kung mag salita’, trying to be a know it all about beauty, she even stated my eye bag about three times in our conversation and trying to get close to my personal bubble at waving her hand near my eye area (ow just horrible).
We wanted to leave to go finish our grocery shopping but she insisted on having me try the blasted cream. And she ‘push talk’ me like a couple of times, what the hell (it felt like ten or fifteen minutes wasted away). And the strange part was there were at least five or six others around watching me and my tita and did nothing to help stop her from being so pushy. I have this slightly mellow incident happen to me last year ‘pero inawat siya ng kasama nya na bawal pilitin yung mga namimili’ Im so relieved to hear that so that alone convinced me that shopping their in sm Watson would be a pleasant experience and I really like shopping there.
Well I think people already know what product she is selling but my concerns is not about the product, not the white uniform or the pretty face but she could just at least respect shoppers, learn how to back off and leave us shopping in peace and not be ‘sobrang piliti ang tao na I test sa skin ang product nya’ .
I said ‘next time na lang’ but she keep bombarding me to try that damn thing. It makes me wonder if this horrible talking is part of a sales strategy to make people buy or just play insensitive about peoples because the product is expensive so they have to act like that ‘so rude’.
It’s funny that I told my tita before we go to Watsons that the service there is good then we ended up with a ‘nagpupumilit’ na SA. Maybe shes over exited about it but at least try to mellow or water it down a bit, I don’t care if shes selling me gold or it’s the best eye cream in the world but please naman be considerate.
Im not trying to bash people or anything but I just don’t like that kind of concept or selling strategy (makes me feel like im in a ordinay mall). The ultimate thing that makes me not buy things our people forcing me to buy or try things. :I
